Systems and Barriers

At Impact Technologies, we design and deliver vehicle arresting barriers that protect people, cargo, and infrastructure where traditional solutions fall short. Our systems combine energy-absorbing nets, proven engineering, and decades of field use to stop vehicles safely — from passenger cars to 90,000 lb trucks — while minimizing damage and downtime.

Whether the challenge is controlling lane access in a city, stopping runaway trucks on mountain passes, or protecting high-speed passenger rail crossings, our solutions offer reliability, flexibility, and cost savings compared to traditional approaches like gates, rigid barriers, or costly overpasses.

What is a Vehicle Arresting Barrier?

A Vehicle Arresting Barrier (VAB) is a safety system designed to stop or redirect vehicles when they lose control, miss signals, or enter restricted zones. Unlike rigid concrete barriers or sand ramps, VABs use energy-absorbing nets and cables to bring vehicles to a controlled stop — reducing risk of injury, damage, and costly infrastructure repairs.

For decades, these systems have been saving lives on mountain passes, highways, and rail crossings. From runaway trucks in Wyoming to urban rail intersections in Chicago and Dallas, VABs are trusted wherever zero intrusion is essential.

Stops Vehicles Safely

Energy-absorbing nets slow vehicles to a controlled stop, protecting drivers and cargo.

Shields Critical Points

Used at mountain passes, tunnels, bridges, HOV lanes and rail crossings.

Proven & Cost-Effective

Decades of field use with lower costs than overpasses, gravel ramps, or rigid barriers.

New Truck Arrestor System Prevents Potentially Deadly Crash On Teton Pass

A newly opened truck arrestor system worked just as it is intended earlier this month—preventing a potentially deadly crash on Teton Pass. At about 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, Jackson, Wyo. resident Andrew Williams was traveling over Teton Pass on a return trip from Idaho where his 1992 Ford Econoline bus had been at a shop.
